biodynamic craniosacral therapy

Why BCST?

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy (BCST) is a therapeutic modality that uses slow, gentle touch, and compassionate, non-judgemental presence to support balance in the body. By attuning to the body’s subtle rhythms and body sensations the practitioner and client move towards physiological safety and regulation. The practitioner will often specifically attune to the body’s craniosacral mechanism, the physiological system comprising the cranium, sacrum, spine, dural membranes and cerebrospinal fluid. However, whole body listening with “thinking, feeling, seeing, knowing, touch,” is at the heart of the practice according to its originator, William Sutherland (1949/1990).

Craniosacral therapist Jane Shaw

Jane Shaw has been practicing biodynamic craniosacral therapy for almost 20 years. Her clinical focus and main research interest is on the link between autonomic nervous system disfunction and presenting physical conditions and emotional challenges.

Her approach is one of compassionate, non judgemental witness, allowing what is to arise with equanimity and loving kindness. She has learned from many years of academic studies but also through conscious self-exploration and lived experience.

As part of her bid to raise the global conversation in body-mind medicine, Jane has organised conferences and international events that have a history and reputation for providing a platform where new ideas emerge in the field of trauma and body-mind practices. She has brought together leaders in the field to share ideas and move conversations forward. Speakers have included Daniel Siegel, Stephen Porges, Gabriel Roth, Bessel van der Kolk, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Rupert Sheldrake, Gabor Mate, Babette Rothschild, Stanley Keleman, Mae van Ho, Peter Levine as well as many others.

Jane currently teaches craniosacral therapy foundation trainings for Body College in London and Ireland. She also runs post grad BCST workshops at Elmfield Estate, in Northern Ireland.
